Sea and mountains collide on a journey that will impress you with its beauty and diversity
Picos de Europa is a unique natural treasure, with peculiarities that cannot be found anywhere else. Its proximity to the sea and extreme contrast of altitude, which extends from 75m (the Deva River) to 2678m (Torrecerredo, roof of the National Park), play a huge role in its biodiversity.
We’ll spend 3 nights in Arenas de Cabrales. From there, we’ll set off on an excursion via public transport, which is regulated to protect the environment.
The programmed hikes, consisting of 2 mountain routes, may vary according to weather conditions and physical ability of the hikers. Our personal recommendations include:
The base of Naranjo de Bulnes, is affectionately called “Pico Urriellu” o “El Picu” by locals. This incredible limestone mass, adored by climbers for its vertical walls, is one of the most emblematic and stunning places in the National Park.
Cares Gorge (Poncebos – Caín – Poncebos) an impressive natural gorge, which runs along the Cares River and boasts a unique walking trail that is carved into the high rock walls, offering truly spectacular views.
After our journey through the Picos, we’ll travel down to the coastal village of Llanes, from where we’ll approach the Northern Camino de Santiago.
This part of the adventure is planned in 3 easy stages walking at a slow pace to absorb every moment of the scenery, villages, and their inhabitants.
We’ll follow forgotten trails, where you can admire steep cliffs, powerful arches that stretch out from the sea like monuments, “bufones” (blowholes) and spectacular beaches, where we’ll have the opportunity to take a refreshing dip. Little by little, we’ll make our way through the coastal villages, which will surprise you with their decadent historical “Casonas de Indianos”, rural houses, with their large corridors and galleries, and traditional fishing boats along the docks.
We’ll stay the night in small and cosy rural accommodations. The luggage will be transported from one place to another, so that everything is waiting for us upon arrival.
